Deborah E. Sewitch, Ph.D., is the Director of Prescription for Sleep. With 28 years of experience working in the field of sleep and its disorders, she has directed three Sleep-Wake Disorders Centers in New England. Her research interests include biological clock issues for shift workers, sleep problems associated with shift work, childhood and adolescent sleep problems, and the negative impact of sleep deprivation in the workplace. She has authored or co-authored some 50 original research papers/review articles in the area of sleep.

Dr. Sewitch has held clinical faculty appointments in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and in Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She is a member of the New York Academy of Science, the Society for Neuroscience, the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms, the American Psychological Society, the Sleep Research Society, and a fellow of the American Sleep Disorders Association.

Dr. Sewitch is a Ph.D. diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, the American Board of Forensic Medicine, and the American Board of Forensic Examiners. She holds a B.A. from Duke University, an M.A., an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. from the City University of New York.

Dr. Sewitch served on the Examination committee of the American Board of Sleep Medicine for 7 years. She currently reviews scientific papers for the journal Sleep, and serves on both the Insomnia Council and the Health and Scientific Councils of the National Sleep Foundation.

She is a frequent resource for newspaper reports, magazine articles, TV health news reports, and radio talk shows in the area of sleep problems and their remedies. Dr. Sewitch has lectured widely on normal and abnormal sleep to healthcare professionals and the lay community and is on the Speakers Bureau of Pfizer and Searle Pharmaceuticals.

A member of the American Association of University Women, her biographical profile is included in the current Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. Her profile will also be included in the 1999-2000 Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the East.
